Stop to smell the flowers

The Wolf And The Sheep

Careful now.

You wouldn’t want to fall.

I know it’s difficult but, more so, you’re almost here.

You should know where you are but if you have forgotten, you are at home right now.

I should or really could tell you more but have a look around.

It’s a peaceful land.

A cottage out in the wilderness, surrounded by trees of silver wood and sparkling blue leaves.

A small stream runs near the cottage as the blue moon sets.

The time of day set in as you move towards the other side of the cottage.

Strands of orange, yellow and red streams into your room.

A sound of sizzling on the stove and bubbling from the pot.

You’re safe, at home, your parents and siblings are in the kitchen.

You were in a nightmare, of never knowing where you were.

Sweat rolls down your back, removing yourself from a bed, opening the closet, outfalls your favorite set of travelling clothes.

Doing somewhat of a normal routine, with dressing in the travelling wear, stepping down the hall towards the kitchen.

Inside you see the pan sizzling and the pot bubbling.

A hop around leaves no one to be seen.

Calling out leaves you without a reply.

They all seem to disappear in the middle of the night.

Turning off the stove and laying out breakfast was simple.

You ate in silence.

A knock at the door as you bolt towards and open to see nobody.

Stepping out of the cottage with a push, slams the door behind you.

Locking itself forcing you to face the outside world.

Thoughts begin to cover your mind, as a fraction of your well being has crumpled up and has fallen to the ground.

You start to believe you are unwanted.

Death was the only escape to your safe house, the cottage.

The silver wood is laughing at you from deep inside.

The blue leaves rustle out rumors and gossip.

They ridicule you in circles and circles you spin.

Trying to breathe and failing to do so.

Then words appear in front of you.

Careful now.

You wouldn’t want to fall.

I know it’s difficult but, more so, you’re almost here.

Wake up!

The sound of a constant beeping makes your eyes flutter open.

A white ceiling and the smell of disinfectant and flowers surround you.

You look to your sides to see your family and friends at the door surrounding you.

They murmur out screams to the door.

People fall down to their knees.

You remember it.

A dream.

A nightmare.

A coma.

You’re awake.

  1. Dear melody:

This was a very captivating piece. I always enjoy stories which have people in a different reality or dream like state other than the real world so this was already interesting with to start. The simple but profound imagery of the cottage and forest was very helpful in painting a picture in my mind as well and was so aesthetically pleasing to read. The quick descent into a nightmare or madness before the character wakes up and it is revealed they have just woken in a hospital was a surprising and delightful ending. Your endings always seem to surprise me a little which is what I enjoy about your writing.

    Sincerely Reegan =)

  2. Melody!

I’ve read this piece several times over again and each time I’ve been blown away. You’re writing has an unique voice to it that gives it a twist that I honestly wasn’t expecting, although it helped add to the piece greatly.

I think that the only thing that I could say would be to watch your GUMPS. I think that if you went back over and fixed a few grammatical errors, that you’d be set! Other than that, there’s honestly nothing.

    Fighting!
